I stopped watching 24 after its fourth season. I just grew tired of watching Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) go after terrorists while being chased by the government as well. I got irritated whenever I hear CTU’s phone ring. But when I saw the 24: Redemption DVD, I can’t help but put it in the player.

Redemption takes place in between Day Six and Seven. We find Jack helping his friend Carl (Robert Carlyle) run an orphanage in Africa. Jack has been served with a subpoena from the US State Department but he declined to honor it. To make things worse, the country is suddenly on the verge of a coup and Americans were asked to evacuate the country.

This movie is a redemption of sorts of the series for me. We see Jack Bauer again in the wrong place at the wrong time. It’s not his fight but in the end he managed to secure the safety of the orphanage’s children. But there’s one thing from the series that I really love but is missing in Redemption, Kim Bauer.

If you’re not a fan of the show then skip 24: Redemption. The movie was made to give the fans some sort of compensation for a forgettable Day Six of the series. Now that I’ve seen Redemption, I need to watch Day Seven. Anyone got the full season seven of 24 that I can borrow? Hehe.

Being a big fan of horror movies, my expectation is high for Mirrors after I saw its trailer. I thought it was cool for Kiefer Sutherland to make another horror film, his last and only being The Lost Boys. Except for one scene, there was no other hair-raising moment in the film.

It started as a horror movie, which is Mirrors’ first phase. The opening sequences fooled me into thinking that this is a decent horror movie, at least. But as the movie progresses, it turned into 24, with Jack Bauer looking for an Esseker.

That’s when the second phase of Mirrors begins. From that point the plot becomes predictable. I just don’t know why Ben (Sutherland) used his gun on an evil entity. How could the writer make the Ben stupid not to realize that bullets are useless when facing the devil?

As for the movie’s ending, let me say that even I was confused about it. Is he or is he not? Here’s an expert opinion on the matter at hand.

Dr. Morris: The patient then has the false perception of the existence of two distinct worlds. The real world, and the world inside a mirror.

Uhm, yeah… that. Thanks doc for the clarification. I must have imagined watching Mirrors when in reality it was just another 24 episode.

*Spoiler*
Ben (Kiefer Sutherland) walks out of the building only to see mirror images of everything. It ends with Ben not able to see his own reflection. Then his handprint appears on the mirror. It means that Ben died and is now trapped behind mirrors.
