Sam Raimi pulled a fast one on us. Drag Me to Hell was marketed as a Horror movie but I was laughing so hard while watching the movie. It reminded me of Raimi’s early work, Evil Dead II. Maybe that’s the kind of atmosphere he was aiming for Drag Me to Hell.

Drag Me to Hell is about Christine (Alison Lohman), a bank loan officer who had a confrontation with an old woman (Lorna Raver) while at work. The old woman, Sylvia, was about to be evicted from her house and was asking for a mortgage extension. Christine denied her request and Sylvia told her that in three days she’s going to hell.

That’s basically the storyline of the movie. Just add Justin Long as Christine’s boyfriend (Clay) who tried to understand what Christine was going through. But no matter what they do to try to take the curse off her, in the end she would still be dragged down to hell.

Without the humor, this movie will drag its audience to hell. You know a scary sequence is coming when suddenly there’s a quiet moment. This leads to a sudden loud noise that Raimi hopes would make the audience jump up from their seats. Drag Me to Hell failed to give me goosebumps.

Christine Brown (Alison Lohman): I beat you, you old bitch!

The surprising twist in the end was not surprising at all. I don’t think this is a spoiler because if you watch Drag Me to Hell, you’ll get the feeling that Christine placed the wrong envelope at Sylvia’s body. Clay found the envelope with the right talisman and sent it back to Christine. Thus she was dragged to hell.

If you’re looking for a good horror movie to scare the wits out of you, then avoid Drag Me to Hell. But if you’re looking for a funny one then do watch this movie.

Finally found a new horror movie that scared me. The Orphan is a good mixture of gruesome and shock that will leave the audience thinking twice about adopting. I think Esther will scare the wits out of Chucky (yes, the doll in Child’s Play, not the Rug Rat).

Orphan is about John (Peter Sarsgaard) and Kate (Vera Farmiga) and their adopted daughter Esther (Isabelle Fuhrman). Right from the start, the audience will recognize that Esther is strange. She charms her new foster parents with her personality and artistic talents. She’s too good to be true. She managed to be close with Max (Aryana Engineer), the couple’s deaf daughter, but at the same time alienates herself to Daniel (Jimmy Bennett), the son.

But don’t rule out Orphan as a typical evil child horror movie just yet. This movie doesn’t involve any demonic possessions in any way . The story was brilliantly written that the twist in the plot completely surprised me.

Esther (Isabelle Fuhrman): I think people should always try to take the bad things that happen to them in their lives, and turn them into something good. Don’t you?

Isabelle Fuhrman deserves some recognition for playing Esther as she goes from sweet in one scene then seductive and then psychotic. I was surprised to find out that she’s only twelve years old (eleven while filming Orphan). I thought she’s already 33! Great things are in store for this kid in the future.

What surprised me about Orphan was that I found myself laughing in some parts of it and yet it managed to jolt me . That to me is what a good thriller should be. Orphan is too good that I would not spoil it… for now.

The remake of The Last House of the Left remained faithful to the original. Its brutality and gruesomeness is something Wes Craven can be proud of. I’m not usually fond of remakes but this one is an exemption.

Mari (Sara Paxton) and her parents are on vacation at their lake house, when she decided to drive to town to meet her friend Paige (Martha MacIsaac). At first her mom (Monica Potter) doesn’t like the idea but she had to let her go when her father (Tony Goldwyn) allowed her to go.

While in town, Mari and Paige met the mysterious Justin (Spencer Treat Clark) and they went with him back to his motel room. Just when they’re having fun and getting high, they were interrupted by Krug (Garret Dillahunt) and his gang (Aaron Paul and Riki Lindhome). Being on the run from the cops, they decided that the two girls were liabilities to be left alive. But for this dastardly gang, murder is not enough. They raped them first before killing them. The rape scene was not graphic but it was one of the disturbing ones I’ve ever seen on screen. You can really feel her pain. No private parts were shown but you’ll remember it even after the end credits.

Krug (Garret Dillahunt): What are the odds, man? Of course your little girl had a lot to do with it. You should be proud. How’d you make us, anyway? Did my fucking kid rat us out? That’s it, isn’t it? My fucking kid! Figured out who you were and blabbered his brains. Hey, by the way, y’all did a bang up job on my brother. He is really fucking dead down there!

The Last House on the Left is the type of movie where you’re waiting for the time justice is served. This was expected but how they got it was brutal and I love it. Of all the houses the gang can go to, they choose Mari’s. And to add to their misfortune, Mari is still alive and has managed to crawl back home. Her parents knew it was Krug and his gang who did it when Justin left Mari’s necklace in the kitchen.

The Last House on the Left is not for the faint of heart. For a remake, it managed to stay true to the original. The acting was great and the story was well-made. I would recommend this to those who enjoy blood and violence in their movies.

I love zombie movies even the low budget ones but I can’t watch Feast 3 in one sitting. I’ve even pressed the fast forward button at least three times for this movie. It started with lots of characters and introduced a couple of new ones but in the end, a few survived.

The first time I watched it or should I say scanned the movie, my mind went blank. Maybe you have to be in that state in order to enjoy it. So the night after my first viewing, I drank some beer and played the video again. This time, I actually found some scenes to be funny.

Random things happened in Feast 3 for no reason at all. The writers must have lost the plot during the making of this movie.

If you love B monster movies, spare yourself from renting Feast 3. It’s not worth the time you’ll spend watching it. Even in B-movie standards, this movie is a piece of cow manure that can fertilize a hectare of farmland. If you’re looking for a Happy Finish, skip this one and buy yourself a happy meal instead.

Right from the first scene Death Bell gave me goose bumps. It’s about an unknown entity that trapped a bunch of elite high school students and made them solve puzzles in order to save their colleagues. The plot felt like Saw but with a few twists thrown in the mix.

Among the students are Yi-Na (Nam Gyu-ri) and Hyeon (Kim Bum). Along with the kids are two teachers, Chang Wook (Lee Beom-su) and Choi So-Yeong (Yung Jeong-heui). Yi-na realized that the students are killed according to their academic rankings. Although there were times that the movie became too cute to be scary, with a high school romance brewing between Kim Bum and Nam Gyu-ri. But overall Death Bell gives its audience enough gore and shock that would satisfy every Asian horror movie fans.

I would not be surprised that Death Bell is remade by Hollywood. The plot might have elements of other horror movies such as Saw, The Ring and The Grudge but the movie has some twists unseen from the mentioned movie. Though I somewhat guessed what the ending might be, I was still surprised with the ending. This is a must see for horror fans.

*Spoiler*
The ghost of Jiwon, a former student of the school, was haunting the school but it was not her that’s doing the killing. The killing is done by her parents. It turns out that Jiwon was killed by Chang Wook and her father, the school security guard, killed the teacher in the end.

But what I like about Credo is that it holds you in suspense without utilizing fancy effects or the use of gore.

The movie plays with your mind and I think that’s what a good horror movie should do. The cast did a great job playing their characters. Boyzone fans would be thrilled to see their idol Stephen Gately play a small role in this one.

Credo is a low budget indie suspense thriller with a good twist in the end. The film has a creepy atmosphere that adds to the tension, which builds up to the climax. It’s good to know that there are still decent filmmakers out there that don’t rely on gore to scare the wits out of people.

The demon made Alice see the things in her head to make her commit suicide, which is an unpardonable sin. After hanging herself in the tower, she contacted the others with the Ouija board.

After watching Zombies! Zombies! Zombies! and actually finishing it, I feel that I’m missing something. Right at the opening scene I knew it was no good. I wanted to give it a chance. 78 minutes later, I cursed myself for enduring the torture.

Don’t get me wrong. I love watching B horror movies. Actually I watched two zombie movies tonight. I enjoyed Zombie Strippers more than Zombies! Zombies! Zombies! Maybe enjoyed is not the term to use. Amused?

Anyway, Zombies! Zombies! Zombies! looked and felt like a home video gone wrong. Even my 12 year old nephew could have done a better zombie movie.

A part of me misses the badly acted, low budgeted movies that I used to watch as a kid. Then I realized that these movies were for those immature audiences or the clinically dead. Zombies! Zombies! Zombies! wasted my time and numbed my brain in the process.

My grandpa used to say that you must be more afraid of real people than ghosts. The Strangers wanted to play on that theory. It is about a group that decided to terrorize a couple for no apparent reason. It is not your typical horror story. There are no ghosts, ghouls or any other imaginary monster in this one. The threat is real and it could happen to any of us.

Writer/Director Bryan Bertino failed miserably to build on the given premise. He did achieve to give it an overall sense of creepiness. Yet, he had to resort to sound effects to scare the audience. Nothing in the film was scary at all.

At the middle of The Stranger I was wishing for the antagonists to finish off the couple, played by Scott Speedman and Liv Tyler. I wished the movie to end. That’s how boring it was. I know some people may say that The Strangers is an instant classic horror flick but I didn’t get it.

Dollface: Because you were home.

I watched 100 Feet not knowing anything about it except that it starred Famke Janssen. When the opening scenes rolled out I said to myself, “Shit, a drama.” It was about a woman who killed her husband cop and is now under house arrest. I thought that the movie would show how she deals with being confined inside her house, hence the title 100 Feet.

This movie is by far the best horror movie I’ve seen this year. It took me back to Amityville. I had goosebumps. What Mirrors failed to do, 100 Feet delivered.

There was this scene from the movie where Marnie (Famke Janssen) had to get things from the basement and things were starting to get really scary when all off the sudden there was a power failure in our area. I’m not the type that gets scared easily but that literally got me out of my seat.

If you love horror movies then 100 Feet is one movie that I would recommend.

Marnie Watson (Famke Janssen):” I guess he didn’t believe in ‘til death do us part.”

You could have just thrown the ring when you killed him Marnie.
