I don’t like Judd Apatow movies. But because Adam Sandler stars in Funny People, I had to watch it with an open mind. It is a dark comedy about one man’s struggle to accept the fact that he’s dying and how he got Punk’d by fate.

Adam Sandler in Funny People reminded me of his role in Punch Drunk Love. As George Simmons, Adam Sandler looks like he’s parodying himself. Simmons is a comedian who has made several hit movies and is still big in the comedy circuit. His life is perfect until he was diagnosed with a disease and he only has a few months to live.

During this dark period of Simmons’ life, he met Ira Wright (Seth Rogen) and hired him as his personal assistant/joke writer. Wright is a struggling comedian himself and shares a house with fellow comics Leo (Jonah Hill) and sitcom star Mark (Jason Schwartzman). Landing the Simmons gig is a big boost to his ego as he is living under the shadows of his more successful friends.

What follows is a long roller coaster ride that lasted for more than two hours. I wish Apatow learns how to make his movies shorter. I felt there were some scenes in Funny People that could have been edited out. What’s with his obsession with cocks anyway? But putting that aside, I did enjoy the movie. Time flew so fast that I didn’t realize that the ending is near.

By the way, Leslie Mann plays Laura, George Simmons’ one true love. He still loves her and wanted to win her back but she’s already married happily to Clarke (Eric Bana).

People say that Funny People is not a typical Judd Apatow movie. So that must be the reason why I liked this one. It is a serious movie with funny moments that showed how show business works. But more importantly it’s about George Simmons and the people around him.

Speaking of other people, Funny People featured lots of cameos from Hollywood superstars. Some of the notable ones are James Taylor, Andy Dick, Paul Reiser, Sarah Silverman, Ray Romano, and Marshall Bruce Mathers III. You’ve read it right. Eminem was in the movie and his dialogue with Simmons was one of the funniest scenes in the movie. Now we know that not everyone loves Raymond.

Daisy (Aubrey Plaza): I am sick of these guys’ rap songs. They say ‘Girl, drop it like it’s hot’, ‘Shake it’. I want to make a rap song that says ‘Boy, brush your teeth, give me your jacket, I’m fucking freezing.’

Even with Adam Sandler onboard, Funny People is not a laugh out loud movie. If you didn’t like Punch Drunk Love then this might not be your cup of tea. But still I recommend this because of the fine acting from the cast (yeah, even Rogen was bearable in this one) and numerous funny moments.

3AM Travis Barker Remix

This is a new Travis Barker remix. The video shows Barker doing Eminem’s 3AM. Again he gave a hip-hop song some rock and roll feel. I like! It’s good to see that he’s fully healed from the airplane accident. I’m still waiting for the next Blink 182 album.

This is probably Eminem’s darkest music video yet. In 3 A.M. he portrays a serial killer. There are blood and body parts laying around. The chorus goes something like this:

Its 3 A.M. in the morning put my key in the door
Bodies laying all over the floor and
I dont remember how they got there
But I guess I musta
Killed em, killed em
