The combination of Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott resulted into a fun and entertaining movie.  In Role Models, Rudd and Scott play Danny and Wheeler.  They are two energy drink spokespersons who got into trouble after Danny’s break up with his girlfriend (Elizabeth Banks).  It’s either jail or community service for them.  They picked the latter.

Community service means spending some time with troubled kids.  Danny is teamed up with Augie (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), someone who likes role-playing games and seems lost in Middle Earth.  Wheeler gets the foul-mouthed Ronnie (Boob’e J. Thompson).

The Uninvited is the Hollywood remake of the Korean horror movie A Tale of Two Sisters.  The original was scary but the remake was so weak that those with heart disorders can safely watch it without the fear of a heart attack. It is more of a mystery thriller than a horror movie.

uninvited

Unlike other Asian horror remakes, The Uninvited is completely westernized.  The movie takes place in a small American town with Emily Browning (Anna) and Arielle Kebbel (Alex) as the two sisters.  The story was slightly tweaked to incorporate the changes in the setting.  Elizabeth Banks plays their stepmom.

Kevin Smith really knows how to get into the nerves of the conservatives. In his latest movie, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, which was released October of 2008, he managed to put in frontal nudity (both the male and female type), shit jokes, racial slurs, and a lot more in its 102 minutes of running time.

zack-and-miriIt’s about best friends Zack (Seth Rogen) and Miri (Elizabeth Banks) who had to resort to making a skin flick in order to pay their bills. They then casted a bunch of amateurs for their film, among them Lester played by Jason Mewes.

If you’re a fan of Smith’s movies like me, then you’ll love every minute of it. It’s like  Dogma meets Clerks with Silent Bob not making a cameo. Though there are still some noteworthy cameos in the film such as Brandon Routh, Justin Long, and adult film legend Traci Lords.

Zack Brown (Seth Rogen): I mean, you look beautiful – you always look… so beautiful, so I guess it’s not a big deal. But you… you look amazing.

This movie is not for kids and I would not let my nephews and nieces watch it until they’re 18. But if you’re a mature adult then Zack and Miri is for you. It’s a sweet romantic comedy disguised in a raunchy movie. And yeah, Elizabeth Banks looks amazing in the movie.

I passed on the recent Eddie Murphy movies because I find them not funny anymore. I was supposed to be working but my mind is on the major WoW patch (Echoes of Doom) and I can’t get any work done. So to distract myself from WoW for now, I watched Meet Dave. I’m glad I did just that.

The movie is about aliens in our planet with their ship disguised as a human Dave. It’s like Coming to America meets Pluto Nash but funnier. Well, anything’s funnier than Pluto Nash. The aliens are Lilliputian in size and controls Dave’s thought and actions. Through Dave’s interaction with Gina (Elizabeth Banks) and her son Josh (Austyn Myers), the aliens learned how to be human.

As the crew discovers various human emotions, it shows through Dave. Some people are like that in a way. It’s like they are controlled by diverse personalities within their body. Maybe there really are aliens living amongst us. Or maybe I’m just trying to divert my attention away from World of Warcraft for now.

But seriously, Eddie Murphy is back to the Eddie Murphy I used to laugh to. I grew up with the Beverly Hills Cop series and that’s the Eddie Murphy I want. Not the Eddie Murphy who wants to play every single character in a movie. Come to think of it, Murphy plays two roles in this movie but it’s not irritating as the Klumps.

Meet Dave succeeded in getting my mind off World of Warcraft for a while. It was enjoyable and well made. But then again, I’ll watch anything just to keep me from checking if my realm’s already up. BTW, Quel’Dorei’s green and I’m off to the barbershop.

And yes, I am Dave Ming Chang!
