The Change-Up is a crude, vulgar comedy movie. Okay, the premise has been done a lot of times but it is done in a good way to make it less predictable.

The Change-Up is a crude, vulgar comedy movie. Okay, the premise has been done a lot of times but it is done in a good way to make it less predictable. Plus, it has lots of funny parts. The pace is good and there is no dragging moment in it.

It is a body-swap, buddy movie. Dave (Jason Bateman) and Mitch (Ryan Reynolds) are old friends with opposite lifestyles. They secretly envy each other’s life. Dave is the dedicated family man with three kids and a loving wife. On the other hand, Mitch is a bachelor who enjoys having sex with different woman and taking drugs on the side. Then one night they piss in a magic fountain and the next day they discover their bodies switched.

This is the start of all sorts of hilarious moments as the two friends learn not to take their lives for granted. Some of the scenes might gross out some people but overall, it is a very decent comedy. And when it tries to be serious, it feels so natural because you care for the characters. That is one of the things that surprised me about The Change-Up.

Even though it is a raunchy comedy, it is well-written by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore of Hangover fame. Director David Dobkin also deserves to be praised for his work. The cast and the writing make The Change-Up a refreshing body-swap comedy.

An R-rated comedy is incomplete without the hot girls. The Change-Up features some of the sexiest women in Hollywood. Leslie Mann plays Jamie, Dave’s wife. Even though they already have three kids, she doesn’t look like it. And it has been one of Mitch’s fantasies to have sex with her. And as always, her comedic timing is spot on.

Then there’s the lovely Olivia Wilde as Sabrina, Dave’s legal associate. She complicates things. Dave has a crush on her but he doesn’t want to have an affair. He takes the opportunity to go out with her while he’s inside Mitch’s body. Technically, he thinks that he’s not teaching on his wife.

Despite being predictable, the characters of The Change-Up manage to turn the story into an interesting one. They embrace the change instead of freaking out on a Friday. Big changes occur to them but Dave tries hard to be Mitch and vice versa. Dave enjoys being 18 again in Mitch’s body and Mitch feels like he’s 13 going on 30. Guys love the movie because of the hot chicks in it. Well it might be a boy/girl thing.

Mitch Planko (Ryan Reynolds): Growing up we both had dreams. Dave wanted to be an astronaut. I wanted to sell dolphins on the black market. But found that’s hard to do. We live in Atlanta… dolphins are hard to find…

The Change-Up is about flawed characters swapping bodies for the better. Their journey is filled with fun and hilarious moments that the audience will surely love.

Paul Rudd is the perfect choice for Our Idiot Brother. He plays Ned, a stoner that’s too naïve with the ways of the world. He is too trusting and childish. At the beginning of the movie, he is arrested and sentenced to eight months in jail.

The other stars of Our Idiot Brother are Ned’s sisters. Elizabeth Banks plays Miranda, who works for Vanity Fair. Then there’s Zooey Deschanel playing Natalie, a lesbian standup comedian who lives with her lawyer girlfriend (Rashida Jones). Lastly, there’s Emily Mortimer, as Liz, the only married one amongst them.

Each of the sisters has her own issues and it doesn’t help them when Ned barges into their houses after he is released from prison. He’s clueless that he is causing much trouble already that it’s not a surprise that his longest relationship is with his dog Willie Nelson.

Aside from the sisters, Our Idiot Brother features a lot of eye candies including Janet Montgomery as Lady Arabella. Her character is vital to the story as it shows how Ned is used by his sister Miranda, who is assigned to interview Lady Arabella. Ned becomes close with the lady and she opens up about her relationship. This is the information that Miranda needs for her article and she tricks her idiot brother into spilling it out to her.

Ned (Paul Rudd): I like to think that if you put your trust out there; if you really give people the benefit of the doubt, see their best intentions, people will rise to the occasion.

Our Idiot Brother shows that people’s perception of stupidity can subjective. Ned’s honesty is misinterpreted as immaturity. He maintains as integrity when her sisters’ wavered. He is seen as the source of the problem when in reality, he is the solution.

Our Idiot Brother succeeds in delivering a funny story and at the same time keeps the audience engaged. In the end, everyone likes Ned and so would you.

Little Black Dress is a movie that stars Yoon Eun Hye, Park Han Byul, Yoo In Na, and Cha Ye Ryun.

Little Black Dress is a movie about friendships, relationships, success and failures of four girls. It stars Yoon Eun Hye, Park Han Byul, Yoo In Na, and Cha Ye Ryun. So you can already guess why I endured watching this chick flick.

Yoon Eun Hye is Yoo Min. She’s still uncertain with what she wants to do in life. She manages to get a job as an assistant to a writer. What she didn’t know was that part of her job was babysitting her boss’ twins. At work she bumps into Young Mi, who is a high school acquaintance.

Park Han Byul is Hye Ji. She’s the most laid back one among the four but it seems like luck is on her side. She becomes a popular CF star. Her three friends are jealous of her success.

Yoo In Na is Min Hee. She comes from a rich family but her parent had to get a divorce. She wants to study abroad to start anew but she must first improve her English skills.

Cha Ye Ryun is Soo Jin. She’s a frustrated actress who has been turned down a lot of times during auditions. She is the most jealous one of Hye Ji’s sudden rise to fame. To add to her problems, her father’s business went bankrupt.

They first met in their first year in college and since then have become inseparable. Little Black Dress is about the challenges the four women face in the real world after college. The actresses did well to keep my attention from wondering away from the screen but it wasn’t enough not to be bored by it. There were parts that were dragging. I guess that I’m not part of its target audience.

Girls should watch Little Black Dress with their girlfriends. They might connect more with the movie than I did. It was predictable and boring. I just found their problems to be a little too shallow. I don’t want to end this review on a bad note, so I’ll post Yoon Eun Hye’s rendition of Lonely by 2NE1.

Don’t expect Hello Ghost to be funny all throughout. It is a light, touching movie for the whole family.

Cha Tae Hyun does it again with Hello Ghost, which is a romantic comedy that will tug one’s heart. He plays Sang Man, a man who survived a suicide attempt. When he woke up, he could see dead people. There’s the crybaby (Jang Young Nam), chain-smoker (Ko Chang Seok), bottomless pit kid (Chun Bo Geun), and the pervert grandpa (Lee Moon Su).

Sang Man is a complete failure and he doesn’t have a family or friends to share his burden. It is after his close call with death that he starts seeing the four ghosts, who could possess his body at will. At first you’ll dismiss it as just another funny movie with ghosts but it is more than that.

Each ghost has its unique characteristics and through them Sang Man learns to appreciate life more. Cha Tae Hyun is perfect for the role as he hilariously go through each ghosts. It is fun to see how the ghosts help him get the girl, or was it the opposite?

Everything is tied up in the end and Hello Ghost transformed from a funny movie to a tearjerker. It turns out that Sang Man’s family was killed in an accident and because of trauma, he totally forgot about it. And if you haven’t guessed it yet, the ghosts were his family. Crybaby was his mother, chain-smoker his dad, kid was his older brother, and the pervert was his granddad.

Don’t expect Hello Ghost to be funny all throughout. It is a light, touching movie for the whole family. It would make you laugh and cry at the same time. It would also make you appreciate your family more and spend more time with them when you still can.

Easy A felt like an 80s teen comedy. It was realistic, fun and interesting and all thanks to Emma Stone.

Growing up in the 80s, I was exposed to some of the best teen comedies ever made. Easy A felt like one of them. It was realistic, fun and interesting. Emma Stone stars as Olive, a high school student who becomes a victim of her school’s rumor mill. Instead of letting it get to her, she uses it to her advantage.

Olive welcomes the attention she got from the rumors. She pretends to sleep with a gay friend Brandon (Dan Byrd) to make him appear straight. Her lies start to balloon out of control and she wants to have her old life back.

Easy A has Emma Stone to thank for its success. Her character doesn’t feel unnatural and she earned my sympathy off the bat. And it looks like she is having fun while making the movie. She makes it believable that Olive is a nobody one day and turns into a somebody the next day.

Amanda Bynes plays Marianne, the school’s religious fanatic and Olive’s archrival. Her portrayal of the character is by-the-book when it comes to comedic stereotypes but it is nice to see Amanda acting again.

Lisa Kudrow is also another actress who is worthy of mention for her performance as Mrs. Griffith, the guidance counselor who slept with Marianne’s boyfriend Micah (Cam Gigandet). While it might just be a minor role, her contribution to the story is important. She kind of reminded me of her Phoebe character in Friends.

Olive Penderghast (Emma Stone): Whatever happened to chivalry? Does it only exist in 80′s movies? I want John Cusack holding a boombox outside my window. I wanna ride off on a lawnmower with Patrick Dempsey. I want Jake from Sixteen Candles waiting outside the church for me. I want Judd Nelson thrusting his fist into the air because he knows he got me. Just once I want my life to be like an 80′s movie, preferably one with a really awesome musical number for no apparent reason. But no, no, John Hughes did not direct my life.

Easy A has creative plot twists to keep the audience guessing and it turns out better than what I expected it to be. It is an intelligent teen comedy that featured great performance from Emma Stone. You should check it out.

It is about Henry, a writer who returns to his hometown to deliver a commencement address to the graduating class of his alma mater.

I have this long love affair with Winona Ryder since Beetlejuice. My feelings have not diminished since then. I have watched all of her movies and this is the main reason why I saw Stay Cool. It is about Henry (Mark Polish), a writer who returns to his hometown to deliver a commencement address to the graduating class of his alma mater, and his undying obsession for Scarlet (Winona Ryder).

Henry’s timing is good because Scarlet is now separated from her husband Brad Nelson (Marc Blucas), the obnoxious gym teacher. To make things complicated, Shasta (Hillary Duff), the 17 year old daughter of his classmates, has a crush on him.

Nobody in his hometown has ever read his book, How Lionel Got Him Laid. And if they did then they could have known that it is not a work of fiction but an autobiography. It is about him and the people around him. Then they could have seen that his intention of going back is not to speak to the graduates but to speak to the one.

Good thing he has his crazy friends helping him along the way. There’s the tattoo artist Wino (Josh Holloway) and the gay hairdresser Big Girl (Sean Astin). But then again, he also managed to screw up their friendship.

The true star of Stay Cool is Winona Ryder. I know you might think I’m just being biased but she did make the movie better with her presence. Without her, it’s just another dull movie about high school. I find Mark Polish’s performance to be lackluster.

I don’t like the ending though. All this time Henry is pursuing the girl of his dream and when he managed to sleep with her, he leaves town. I don’t know what the Polish brothers wanted to convey. Was it all about sex? Why did they end it with an anticlimactic goodbye? Maybe they really left it hanging so that the audience can make their own endings for the movie.

Shasta O’Neil (Hillary Duff): You can say yes now, and you can always say no later. But if you say no now, then you’ll never ever have a chance to say yes.

Stay Cool is a light comedy that tackled the what-ifs in life. Not everyone is as lucky as Henry, who has the chance to work on the questions left unanswered after he left town. Do you have any hang-ups in life that you can’t let go?

I don’t know why people, mostly critics, hated Cop Out. Maybe they expected to see an Oscar contender but instead got a funny buddy cop movie. Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan have good chemistry. Bruce Willis played his role well. Tracy Morgan complimented him with him by being annoyingly funny.

But I have to give credit to Seann William Scott, who gave the best performance in Cop Out. As Dave the Shit Bandit, he provided lots of laughter even if he was just one of the supporting characters. There was a scene when Dave was giving out love advices to the two detectives while he was held at the back of the car.

The plot of Cop Out is interesting enough and has a steady flow that there was no boring point in the movie. There were more than enough funny moments to keep the viewers entertained. I don’t know why people call it the worst movie that Kevin Smith has ever made. It is not the best movie that the director has ever made but I don’t think that it could be the most awful one of all. Oh well, maybe they haven’t seen Red State yet.

The only eye-candy I got in Cop Out is Ana de la Reguera, who played the role of Gabriella, mistress of a Mexican drug lord. Last time I saw her was in Nacho Libre, where Jack Black was flirting with her nun character. Hopefully she gets more gigs in Hollywood.

Paul Hodges (Tracy Morgan): This is the stuff that my mom would tell friends about me, ‘My son is genius, my son is a genius’.

Cop Out is not as bad as Jersey Girl but it is not in the same level as Clerks, Chasing Amy or even Mallrats. You should take it for what it is, which is a fun movie that you’ll enjoy watching with your drunken friends. It is a movie that should not be taken seriously.

Would you believe me if I told you that a song can save the world? This is the premise of Fish Story.

Would you believe me if I told you that a song can save the world? This is the premise of Fish Story. It is an unbelievable story that would suspend reality in 112 minutes and leave you with a smile in the end. Japanese really know how to imagine weird stuff.

Fish Story is a song recorded by the punk band Gekirin in 1975. They are punk even before Sex Pistols popularized the genre. Despite not mainstream, a producer allows them to record the song. He believes that the song would one day impact the life of a person. Actually the song is good.

The movie jumps through different time periods, from 1975 up to 2012, where a meteor is about to hit the planet. It’s like Armageddon, Japanese-style. Fish Story shows the viewer different stories and how they all contribute to the main story.

It is unpredictable how Fish Story will stop the meteor and I wouldn’t spoil that here. Each story reveals a piece of the puzzle and when the big reveal comes in the end, you’ll find yourself jumping up and down with joy. Then you’ll want to watch it again. Its ending is definitely not a letdown.

Fish Story is well-acted but there are some of them that stand out from the rest. They are Omori Nao, who played the music producer; Kora Kengo, the front man of Gekirin; Ito Atsushi, the band’s leader; and Moriyama Mirai, the champion of justice. Mirai’s action scenes are well choreographed and make Fish Story more entertaining. For eye-candy, there’s Tabe Mikako.

I can’t really pinpoint Fish Story’s genre. It is a good mix of thriller, action, comedy, musical, documentary and drama. Maybe this is the reason why it is gripping and not boring at all. Each of the subplots can be made into a full-length movie and still be interesting. When all of them are combined, the result is a magical rollercoaster ride. It is a fun movie from start to end.

Battlefield Heroes is Director Lee Joon Ik's followup to his Once Upon a Time in a Battlefield.

No, this is not about the old Battlefield Heroes PC game that came out on 2009. This is about the Korean movie that was released a year later. Battlefield Heroes or Pyongyang Castle is the follow up of Director Lee Joon Ik’s 2003 debut Once Upon a Time in a Battlefield.

Battlefield Heroes is a historic comedy of epic proportions. It has an all-star cast that includes Jung Jin Young as Kim Yoo Sin, Lee Moon Shik as Thingamajig, Ryu Seung Ryong as Nam Geon, Yoon Je Moon as Nam Saeng, the lovely Sun Woo Sun as Gap Soon, and my favorite Lee Kwang Soo as Moon Di.

In Battlefield Heroes, the Shilla are still allied with Tang China, which helped them defeat Baekje. They try to take Pyongyang Castle as the Goguryeo’s top warrior Nam Geon rally his troops to defend it. What he doesn’t know is that his brother is plotting something against him. Then there’s Thingamajig, who finds himself like a tennis ball being passed around by the two camps. He tries his best to stay alive as well as win the heart of a Goguryeo sword maiden Gap Sun. Just as the tide is favoring the Shilla, it looks like Tang China has other plans of its own.

Battlefield Heroes is not an accurate depiction of Korean history. It has a lot going on in it with its huge cast and several sub-plots. The director manages to incorporate all the elements and turn them into an entertaining movie.

What sets Battlefield Heroes different from other period war movies is that it focuses on the conscripted men and not just the generals and heroes. To them, survival is more important than glory. It is funny to see how the characters try their best to stay out of trouble to avoid bloodshed instead of going into battles.

Director Lee Joon Ik combines combined action, drama, and humor to make Battlefield Heroes a fun and enjoyable movie. The director knows how to make period pieces more interesting.

I Love You, Beth Cooper is not included in the list of best high school movies of all time but it is not a waste of time. It is a decent movie that’s would make you laugh once in a while. Plus it stars one of my showbiz crushes, Hayden Panettiere as Beth Cooper.

Denis Cooverman (Paul Rust) is his high school’s valedictorian. Beth Cooper is the most popular cheerleader of their school. Denis didn’t have the guts to step up the plate and confess to Beth about his feelings for her until graduation day. During his speech to the graduating class, he declared his love for her.

Denis even asked Beth Cooper out to a party at his house later and she accepted it. Everyone seems happy about it except for Beth’s boyfriend Kevin (Shawn Roberts). He showed up at the party and wrecked the place apart.

Rich Munsch (Jack Carpenter): No, Denis! Denis, have you ever seen any of the Friday the 13ths? You run upstairs, you die!

Denis, his best friend Rich, Beth, and her friends Cammy (Lauren London) and Treece (Lauren Storm) got into Beth’s car to escape Kevin’s wrath. For years, Denis tried to get close to Beth Cooper and now for just one night he got to see who she really was.

Denis Cooverman (Paul Rust): What’s not to love? You remember that.

What’s not to love about Hayden Panattiere? I Love You, Beth Cooper successfully takes the audience in a fun ride with one of the cutest actresses in the planet. She had my full attention from start to finish. You wouldn’t watch this movie for its character development or story. It’s about a geek outsmarting the jock to get the girl and nothing more. Take it for what it is and enjoy the show.
