Quentin Tarantino gives us an alternative ending to World War II via Inglourious Basterds. It has everything you’re looking for in a Tarantino film – violent, bloody, and funny. It had my full attention right from the opening sequence where Colonel Hans “Jew Hunter” Landa (Christoph Waltz) was interrogating the dairy farmer (Denis Menochet).

Lt. Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) is the leader of the Basterds, which is a group of American soldiers whose goal is to kill Nazis within the occupied territory. Then there’s Shosanna (Melanie Laurent), a Jewish cinema owner who has witnessed her family being massacred by Landa’s group.

The lives of the Raine, Shosanna, and Landa intertwine with each other and end with the slaughter of the Nazis, including Hitler, in the cinema. We all know that Hitler didn’t die in a cinema but why stick to historical facts when a fanfic will be more entertaining. The Inglourious Basterds has a lot of historical inaccuracies; if you want to know the truth then watch a documentary instead.

Lt. Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt): You know somethin’, Utivich? I think this might just be my masterpiece.

At first I was annoyed with Pitt’s accent but it became bearable as the movie progressed. Pitt, Waltz, Laurent, and the rest of the cast members of the Inglourious Basterds gave an outstanding performance. When Mike Myers came on screen, all I could think about was Austin Powers. Oh well, he did play a British military man in this one. Diane Kruger provided additional eye-candy as Bridget von Hammersmark.

Quentin Tarantino knows how to entertain his fans. He managed to make World War II fun. The Inglourious Basterds is 2 ½ hours long but it’s filled with suspense, drama, action, and humor that you wouldn’t even notice the time. A lot of people and spell checkers hate this movie. They are calling it a travesty and an insult for those who died during the war. But Tarantino didn’t pass it as reality. It’s his version and I like it.

Curious is the right adjective for this movie. I was curious how a Benjamin Button’s life would be when he was born old. Instead of getting older, he does the reverse and grows younger each year. With a plot like this you, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is definitely something you’ve never seen before.

The story is told by Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt) himself although there are some parts in which Daisy (Cate Blanchett) adds to the story. The movie took place from the time World War I end up to Hurricane Katrina’s arrival. Much like Forrest Gump, Button’s life is interesting but unlike Gump, he didn’t meet any presidents.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is enjoyable but the story has its flaws. It’s a love story that portrays age as just a being number yet Button left Daisy and his family because he felt he’s inadequate as a father. This is not the only hole in the plot.

Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt): Along the way you bump into people who make a dent on your life. Some people get struck by lightning. Some are born to sit by a river. Some have an ear for music. Some are artists. Some swim the English Channel. Some know buttons. Some know Shakespeare. Some are mothers. And some people can dance.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button might not be perfect but it’s not that bad. Even though the running time is more than 2 hours, it would just breeze by you. But this fact is true. You’ll never meet another Benjamin Button in our lifetime.

*Spoiler*
Benjamin Button got younger through the years. He dies as a baby with dementia.

I always knew that the Central Intelligence Agency lacked one thing, intelligence. And this newest comedy from the Coen Brothers proved it. Burn After Reading is an intelligent movie about stupid people. It was nicely done with all the right ingredients.

Its star studded cast which includes George Clooney (Harry Pfarrer), Frances McDormand (Linda Litzke), John Malkovich (Osbourne Cox), and Tilda Swanton (Katie Cox)delivered awesome performances but special mention should be of Brad Pitt’s role (Chad Feldheimer) in this movie. He might just be the support but his innocence is believable and played a vital part in the plot.

Burn After Reading is a comedy that lets makes you use your brain rather than leave it outside the ticket counter. But you must not over analyze it. When you do, you’ll miss the fun and the genius that the Coen Brothers has embedded into this film.

Osbourne Cox (John Malkovich): You are part of a league of morons. Oh, yes. You see you’re one of the morons I’ve been fighting my whole life. But guess what. Today, I win.

*Spoiler*
Basically the plot is about Osbourne Cox, a CIA analysis that quit his job. Then somewhere along the way, a copy of his memoire got lost and found by Chad Feldheimer and Linda Litzke. Cox’s wife Katie is having an affair with Harry Pfarrer, a womanizer who has a fling with Linda. Linda wanted plastic surgery done on her to look younger. Cut the story short, Harry accidentally killed Chad and went into hiding. Osbourne was killed by a CIA agent while hacking Chad and Linda’s boss. Linda got her wish of plastic surgery.
