Ben Stiller is back as Larry Daley the night guard. But this time around he has a bigger museum to play in. I enjoyed the first Night at the Museum and Battle of the Smithsonian looked promising with all the famous characters Larry the night guard is bound to meet.

Also back for the sequel are Owen Wilson as Jedediah Smith, Robin Williams as Teddy Roosevelt, Mizuo Peck as Sacajawea, and Steve Coogan as Octavius. Also featured in the movie are Hank Azaria as Kahmunrah/Abe Lincoln/The Thinker, Amy Adams as Amelia Earhart, Christopher Guest as Ivan the Terrible, Alain Chabat as Napoleon Bonaparte, Jon Bernthal as Al Capone, and Patrick Gallagher as Attila the Hun.

Larry finds out that the Museum of Natural History is being closed for renovation and the museum pieces are being moved for storage at the Smithsonian. Then he gets a call from Jedediah and found out that Dexter the monkey stole the tablet and now the Evil Pharaoh Kahmunrah is after it. Larry must now go into the Smithsonian and save the day (or night as in this case) again.

Critics are bashing Night at the Museum 2 because they say the magic and the essence of the movie was already lost. Some say that the story felt unreal. Well if they can make inanimate objects come to life in the night then I’ll agree with them.

Jedediah (Owen Wilson): Two words come to mind when I hear you speak, weird and delusional. And If I had to pick a third… goofy. Just plain goofy.

I enjoyed Battle of the Smithsonian. Jedediah and Octavius are still hilarious. There was a scene where they went Rambo against bigger opponents and it made me LOL in real life. The addition of Amy Adams was just icing to the cake. Her portrayal of Amelia Earhart was perfect and believable. Although I still can’t figure out how she managed to go back to Smithsonian after bringing Larry and the rest of the gang back at the Museum of Natural History.

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian is entertaining. The humor was okay, the musical score hits the right notes, and the special effects were excellent. I’ve never been a fan of Ben Stiller but I would recommend this for the whole family.

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa is much better than the first one. All the main characters are back but they’re in other unfamiliar environment. The sequel takes them to Africa, hometown of Alex (Ben Stiller). Together with Marty (Chris Rock), Melman (David Schwimmer), and Gloria (Jada Pickett Smith), they discover their origins and mingled with their kind.

As the case of the first movie, the penguins stole the show. I wonder if Dreamworks is already thinking of making a spinoff with the penguins. That is one cartoon that I would definitely want to see and I’m sure that I’m not the only one who feels this way.

The humor can make even the grouchiest member of the audience laugh. It is one movie that I would definitely recommend to everyone.

We would learn a thing or two about friendship and inner beauty. Plus it has the cheesiest line ever to be delivered by a giraffe.

Melman (David Schwimmer): Listen Moto Moto. You better treat this lady like a queen because you my friend, you found yourself the perfect women. If I was ever so lucky to find the perfect women I would give her flowers everyday and not just any flowers, okay? Her favorites are orchids, white, and breakfast in bed… six loaves of wheat toast with butter on both sides, no crust. The way she likes it. I’d be her shoulder to cry on and her best friend and I’d spend everyday trying to think of how to make her laugh. She has the most, most amazing laugh. Well that’s what I would do if were you.

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa is one movie that would make you want to move it!

*Spoiler*
The watering hole dried up so Alex went upstream to investigate. Turns out that Granny constructed a dam that stopped the flow of water. Then Alex was caught by the humans and was about to be cooked. Zuba comes to the rescue. But they were cornered by the humans. Alex realized that these are New Yorkers and began his dance. Then came the penguins with the repaired airplane and they successfully restored the water by demolishing the dam.

Ben Stiller surprised me with Tropic Thunder. The last Stiller movie that I liked was There’s Something About Mary so I had some uncertainties regarding this movie. It’s a movie about the men behind making a Vietnam movie. Well, that’s what they thought they were doing.

Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. play as the actors. Their onscreen chemistry was good and had me laughing with their antics. I like Robert Downey Jr’s role of an Australian playing an African American. He did justice to the role he was given and I felt that it was not offensive at all.

Though the three might have the top billing for Tropic Thunder, I think that the supporting cast saved the movie. Nick Nolte, Steve Coogan and Matthew McConaughey gave out great comedic performances for the film.

But I think that the biggest star of Tropic Thunder is Tom Cruise. His performance was excellent to say the least. He brought the house down with his dance moves. I didn’t recognize him at first. He should be doing more comedy movies.

Tropic Thunder is a funny movie right from the fake trailers in the beginning to Cruise’s dance when the credits are rolling. Even if you’re not a fan of Ben Stiller, Tropic Thunder is a must see.

Scorcher Preview Narrator: Now, the only person who could make a difference before, will make a difference again!

Tom Cruise did make the difference in this movie.
