The Uninvited is the Hollywood remake of the Korean horror movie A Tale of Two Sisters. The original was scary but the remake was so weak that those with heart disorders can safely watch it without the fear of a heart attack. It is more of a mystery thriller than a horror movie.

Unlike other Asian horror remakes, The Uninvited is completely westernized. The movie takes place in a small American town with Emily Browning (Anna) and Arielle Kebbel (Alex) as the two sisters. The story was slightly tweaked to incorporate the changes in the setting. Elizabeth Banks plays their stepmom.

Rachael (Elizabeth Banks): You know Anna, I don’t think this is going to work out.

I like the changes they did with The Uninvited. As a horror remake, it failed. But as a mystery thriller, it is good but not quite great. Yup, Anna accidentally killed her mom and her sister that sent her to the loony bin. When she was supposed to have recovered from it and returned home, she still sees the already dead Alex hanging around the house. Then she killed her stepmom and in the end she goes back to the mental institute.

If you’re expecting to be scared out of your wits, then watch the original A Tale of Two Sisters. But if you want to enjoy a thriller with slight unpredictable plot twists, then watch The Uninvited. If you’re a fan of the original, watch it with an open mind or else you’re up for some major disappointment.
