I took some time off from my daily grind to check out Next Island, a free-to-play online game that is built on the Entropia Universe platform. It combines great storytelling, with social features that would attract both hardcore and casual gamers.

Next Island lets the gamers go back in time and explore the map. They would earn goods that would increase their value. The time travel factor is what made this game different from the rest of the MMO games. The company said that new eras would be introduced every few months that would mean limitless possibilities for the gamers.

Just like in real life, Next Island players can choose a profession that they can master in order to make in-game money. There are lots of professions to choose from in the game. I’m thinking of becoming either a Hunter or a Miner.

Hunting in Next Island is a good source of resources such as skins, bones, oils and a lot more. These materials are required by manufacturers. Finding rare mats would bring in big bucks. Hunters can use various melee and ranged weapons for hunting. The Trade Terminal contains basic weapons and ammunitions. Advanced equipment can be bought from auction, shops, or from other players.

I’ve always been a miner when playing MMORPGs. In Next Island, there are two types of resources available. These are enmatters and ores. Miners develop various skills related to the profession, such as prospecting, surveying, geology, and more.

As you can see, Next Island looks like it’s worth the try. It has everything for all types of gamers. If only I have some free time in real life, then I can spend more time in Next Island.

YTV’s Sidekick presents Bingopocalypse, a Lemmings-like single player game. The Clone Ranger machine is broken and now the mansion is filled with mini-Maxum hamsters. Eric the Sidekick’s mission is to lead these rodents into the Recompiler before the Man Maid gets to them.

Eric has various gadgets in his utility belt that can be used to lead the hamsters to safety. Some of the gadgets are blowtorches, trampolines, and jackhammers. When the tool is glowing red, you can’t place it in that position. White glow means you can use it. Tools can’t be place on top of another.

You have a minimum number of hamsters to save to get to the next level. They are an impatient bunch, so you must get them to the Recompiler before time runs out. The more hamsters saved, the more points you’ll get. Also, hamsters die if they fall from a high ledge. So make sure that they fall into a safe ledge.

Play Bingopocalypse if you think you have what it takes to be a Sidekick. Sidekick has two other upcoming games, which The Henchman Prize and Sidekicks vs. Villains. Also, make sure you check you the revamped Sidekick page at YTV.com. There you can watch videos, learn about the characters and view photos of Sidekick.

It’s been 2 years since I got to talk to Keith Webb about his Go! Go! Kokopolo game for the Nintendo DS. I haven’t heard about the game since then, so I was surprised to receive an email from Webb to announce that the game will be out soon.

Go! Go! Kokopolo will be available for the Nintendo 3DS and DSi consoles. The game will be out on August 4 in Europe and August 11 in the United States. You can get it from the Nintendo eShop for $7.99 and from the Nintendo DSi Shop for 800 points.

In, Go! Go! Kokopolo, you control the mischievous wildcat Kokopolo to hunt down the other forest creatures that disturbed his sleep. He would scratch them to get their attention and lure them through mazes until they end up in the belly of the Snap Snap plant. You can watch the gameplay video below.

Judging from the video, this could be an addicting arcade game. Its arcade-style gameplay feels like Pac-man and Bomberman rolled into one. It has 80 stages set in 10 different worlds. There are ten Bosses to beat and 40 scratch cards to unlock. Plus, it has bonus rounds, secrets and much more in stored for gamers. The long wait for Go! Go! Kokopolo might be worth it.

These two words welcomed me when I tried logging in my Facebook account tonight. At first I was angry. I was like a druggie missing his usual fix. What will I do when I’m procrastinating?

Maybe the FB gods have their reasons to keep me away from the site for a few hours.. maybe a day.. or a week.. or worst, a month. Crops withered in Farmville. Mafia members not receiving their respects. Pets not petted.

Oh wait.. I can log in already. FB gods love me. Time to harvest!

I got a chance to chat with Keith Webb, creator of Go! Go! Kokopolo! for NintendoNonstop. It was due to something I said in a previous article in NintendoNonstop.

Anyway, Go! Go! Kokopolo! is a Nintendo DS game that follows the adventure of the wild cat Kokopolo with a slightly hyperactive temper. When his peaceful slumber is disturbed, he embarks on a mission to play pranks and cause comic mischief to those responsible.

When asked why he chose the DS over the Wii, he replied, “Developed for DS purely as a great fan of pixel and sprite artwork. The game is also designed to be purely “pick up and play” and played in short bursts. Thus perfect for handhelds.”

Keith Webb must be one of the nicest persons in the gaming industry today. When I asked him about casual gaming, he said, “Love casual gaming. Great way of getting more people involved. Though also a great fan of more hardcore, old-school, retro games. I think there is room in the market for both.”

My thoughts exactly. Thanks again Keith for your time.

Here are some concept art from Go! Go! Kokopolo!
