The Ice Age franchise continues to be appealing to audiences of all ages with Dawn of the Dinosaurs, the third installation of the series. This time around, Manny (Ray Romano) and Ellie (Queen Latifah) are expecting their first offspring. Manny is nervous about becoming a first time dad.

Diego (Denis Leary) is worried that he’s losing his killer instincts and tries to become an intimidating saber tooth again. Ice Age is not complete without Sid. This time he also wants to have his own babies and decided to adopt a bunch of dinosaur eggs. And here’s how all the misfortunate series of events started to unfold.

Alice in Wonderland is a visual treat. It is colorful and bleak at the same time. Alice (Mia Wasikowska) goes back to Wonderland but doesn’t remember being there before. Not much was changed from Lewis Carroll’s books except this time Alice is trying to recover her muchness.

It might have Alice in the title but the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) stole the show, especially when he did his futterwack dance. I thought the Jabberwocky (Christopher Lee) would get up and join him, JabbaWockeeZ-style.

This review is long overdue. 500 Days of Summer is my best movie for 2009. The narrator was right when he said at the start that this is not a love story. It’s about Tom (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and his quest of finding the girl of his dreams.

Then Summer (Zooey Deschanel) came and Tom’s world revolved around her. Too bad for Tom, Summer doesn’t want any commitments. This is the main premise of the movie. 500 Days of Summer expertly portrayed unrequited love.

Surrogates presents a futuristic world where humans are too lazy to do anything and let their proxy bodies do everything for them; hence the title. It’s a perfect world where crime doesn’t exist. But the peace is disrupted when a robot was toasted, along with its human controller.

Agent Tom Greer (Bruce Willis) was brought in to investigate the rare murder case and in the process he uncovered a bigger plot that can threaten the peaceful existence of the Utopian world. It involved an armed resistance group opposing the use of surrogates and the company that produced the androids.

If you’re an adult and you’re looking for a good romantic comedy, then The Ugly Truth is what you’re looking for. I was wondering how the chemistry between King Leonidas and Doc Izzie would be, and my apprehension was for naught as Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler did a good job in this one.

The Ugly Truth is a fun movie. It is romantic and yet offers a bit of crudeness that guys will find entertaining. It’s because of the adult humor that makes it unsuitable for kids but there’s no nudity in this one. No sneak peeks of Katherine’s peaks.

Fans of the Percy Jackson books want Chris Columbus turned into stone by Medusa and they do have a valid reason for their complaints. Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief doesn’t look and feel like the literary series it is based on. To be honest, the movie felt like a junior Clash of the Titans movie. It didn’t help that the latter’s trailer played before the start of Percy Jackson.

The main man Percy Jackson (Logan Lerman) is accused of stealing Zeus’ Lightning Bolt. Zeus (Sean Bean) is threatening to start a war among the Olympians if Percy the son of Poseidon (Kevin McKidd) doesn’t return his bolt. Now the fate of the world lays on the hands of a demi-god, who doesn’t even know he’s one.

I have this fascination with World War II and the key people involved, Hitler to be exact. This is the main reason why I watched Valkyrie. Unlike Inglourious Basterds, Valkyrie is based on historical facts. It was educational and entertaining at the same time.

Valkyrie is centered on Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg (Tom Cruise). Save for his accent, Cruise did well in playing the German army officer who was one of the leaders of the failed Hitler assassination plot. I don’t agree with Cruise’s religious beliefs but I have faith in his acting abilities. The supporting casts were great as well.
