Up was judged as the Best Animated Feature Film in the 2009 Oscars, beating my favorite Coraline for the title. But I’m not surprised at all. Up is a story-driven animated movie that is fun for kids and adults alike.

It’s about Carl Fredricksen (Edward Asner), a grumpy widower who inflated enough balloons to lift his house up and begin his journey to find Paradise Falls. This is to fulfill a promise he made to his late wife. Just when he’s high enough in the sky, Carl found out that he’s not alone and he’s sharing this incredible journey with a kid named Russell (Jordan Nagai).
Up managed to be hilarious, warm, touching, and gloomy at the right time. The plot was nicely done that the transitions are smooth from one emotion to another. The visuals are nicely made and have a distinct feel to them. There are no breakthroughs in the graphics department but like any other Pixar movie, the animators went into great distance to make it pretty right down to the minute details.
Charles Muntz (Christopher Plummer): Adventure is out there!
Pixar sure knows how to create a quality animated movie without relying on hype to turn it into a blockbuster. Up has soul, just like any other Pixar movie. Coraline might be numero uno for me last year but Up is up there with it.
