The Cell 2 is a direct to video sequel and after watching it, there’s no doubt as to why it was that way. It has less spectacular special effects than the original and the plot was absurd.
It stars Tessie Santiago, who I think is way hotter than Jennifer Lopez. But much that I hate to admit it, J-Lo is a better actress than Tessie Santiago. She plays Maya, a psychic, who helps the FBI track down a serial killer, The Cusp.
Maya was the one who got away and The Cusp wants her back. The concept of a killer who revives his victim over and over until they ask to die is good but it was poorly executed in this movie. This is due to poor direction and acting.
I thought at first that Tessie Santiago would keep me entertained throughout the movie but the lousy effects can be frustrating. Frank Whaley is someone you’ll not suspect as being the killer but the poorly written script gave it away before the halfway point. Plus the make-out session in the end was unwarranted. With all its bad acting and the plot holes, I would not recommend watching The Cell 2. It killed the franchise.
