Little Orphan Esther
Finally found a new horror movie that scared me. The Orphan is a good mixture of gruesome and shock that will leave the audience thinking twice about adopting. I think Esther will scare the wits out of Chucky (yes, the doll in Child’s Play, not the Rug Rat).
Orphan is about John (Peter Sarsgaard) and Kate (Vera Farmiga) and their adopted daughter Esther (Isabelle Fuhrman). Right from the start, the audience will recognize that Esther is strange. She charms her new foster parents with her personality and artistic talents. She’s too good to be true. She managed to be close with Max (Aryana Engineer), the couple’s deaf daughter, but at the same time alienates herself to Daniel (Jimmy Bennett), the son.
But don’t rule out Orphan as a typical evil child horror movie just yet. This movie doesn’t involve any demonic possessions in any way . The story was brilliantly written that the twist in the plot completely surprised me.
Esther (Isabelle Fuhrman): I think people should always try to take the bad things that happen to them in their lives, and turn them into something good. Don’t you?
Isabelle Fuhrman deserves some recognition for playing Esther as she goes from sweet in one scene then seductive and then psychotic. I was surprised to find out that she’s only twelve years old (eleven while filming Orphan). I thought she’s already 33! Great things are in store for this kid in the future.
What surprised me about Orphan was that I found myself laughing in some parts of it and yet it managed to jolt me . That to me is what a good thriller should be. Orphan is too good that I would not spoil it… for now.
