It’s good to see Steve Martin again as Clouseau in Pink Panther 2. He’s one of my favorite comedians of all time and I do think that he did a good job in the first one. For the sequel Clouseau is joined by a squad of international detectives who are hunting down The Tornado, a notorious cat burglar who has stolen some of the world’s treasures.

Andy Garcia leads the members of the international investigators, which include Alfred Molina, Yuki Matsuzaki and Aishwarya Rai. It was fun to see Andy Garcia in a comedy. Back to play their roles again are Jean Reno as Ponton and Emily Mortimer as Nicole.
Pink Panther 2 doesn’t have an award winning performance nor a thought provoking plot but the humor is right on the mark. The Closeasu-Nicole relationship is featured in the sequel and is a vital part of the whole picture. Fans of Peter Seller as Jacques Clouseau should not hate Steve Martin. Some say that the original is still the best but Steve Martin gave Clouseau something new. He gave him heart. Everyone can relate his bumbling love for Nicole.
Insp. Jacques Clouseau (Steve Martin): Let me bring you up to speed… We know nothing. You are now up to speed.
There was a scene where The Tornado saw the group of detectives and he uttered that he knew one of them. I thought it was one of the guys and that he was gay. It turned out that he was pertaining to the lone lady in the group, Sonia (Aishwarya Rai). She’s a former lover who stole all treasures in the hopes of flushing out Tornado from where he’s hiding. In the climax, she thought she destroyed the Pink Panther diamond but in reality it was a fake. The real Pink Panther diamond was with Jacques Clouseau.
If you want to watch a comedy with the whole family, I’ll recommend Pink Panther 2. It was better than the first one and I’ll guarantee you’ll be laughing at Jacques Clouseau’s bumbling yet successful way of solving the problem.
