Yes Man, Nice One

I found the beginning of Yes Man to be dragging but the pace changed once Jim Carrey became a yes man.  It showcased Jim Carrey’s comedic brilliance that has been in hibernation in recent time.  Anyone remember Fun with Dick and Jane?

Romantic comedies tend to stick to a formula and Yes Man is no exception.  It about Carl (Jim Carrey) a pessimist that transformed into someone that must say yes all the time after he goes to a meeting headed by Terrence Bundley (Terrence Stamp).

Carl Allen (Jim Carrey): What I have to share is huge… and I want to share it with you.

Probably the best scene from Yes Man is when there was a man standing on a ledge and Carl went up to try to dissuade him from jumping.  He got the man’s guitar and started singing Third Eye Blind’s Jumper.  The man and even the crowd below started to sing along with him.  That moment made my night.

Another thing that I liked in Yes Man is Zooey Deschanel who played Carrey’s romantic partner, Allison.  Her character had that sweet innocence that made her shine all throughout the movie.  I first saw her in Almost Famous and wished she had more screen time.

Yes Man is a pleasurable experience that lifts your spirits up after watching it.  Like all the other romantic comedy out there, guy gets girl in the end.  It might be predictable but I can’t help but say yes to this movie.
