I thought that Confessions of a Shopaholic was a cheesy chick flick that a zombie like me would not enjoy. But I liked it. Maybe I’m a closet shopaholic, just waiting for the right moment to go on a shopping spree.

But seriously, Isla Fisher did a good job in this one. She and Hugh Dancy had that chemistry that makes this romantic comedy entertaining. The plot was interesting, although it’s a bit predictable. But it does what it was supposed to do and that’s to make the audience feel good after watching the movie.
Rebecca Bloomwood (Isla Fisher): You know that thing when you see someone cute and he smiles and your heart kind of goes like warm butter sliding down hot toast? Well that’s what it’s like when I see a store. Only it’s better.
Confessions of a Shopaholic lets us into the life of Rebecca, a certified shopaholic and her attempt to reform herself. The pacing of the movie keeps the audience engaged. Even though it has an unsurprising storyline with Rebecca and Luke getting together in the end, it did pull a fast one on me. I didn’t expect Luke to bid for the green scarf by using two dummy bidders. Why use two bidders and bid against each other in the first place? Well, that’s only one thing I didn’t get from the movie.
In this time of global recession, we should all emulate Rebecca Bloomwood and find a way to get through it. If a shopaholic can get back on her feet, ordinary people should not lose hope during these difficult times. Confessions of a Shopaholic gets a thumbs up from this movieholic.
