Where is My Soulmate?

Soulmate is a Korean drama series about couples and their love stories.  Each pair has their own unique definition to love.  The viewers can learn a thing or two about the game of love.  It might be Korean but the issues are prevalent in any society across the world.

It’s a small world for the people in Soul Mate and it features love triangles. During the first episode we are introduced to Soo Kyung and Phillip just when he is proposing to her in a subway train.  But then he fell for his flirty English teacher Min-ae (Jang Mi Ne), who has an open relationship with Ryo Hei.

Then there’s Yu Jin (Sa Kang) who met Dong Wook during a blind date.  The two were not meant for each other from the start and it didn’t help their relationship when Dong Wook realized that Soo Kyung is his soulmate.

Soulmate has an unexpected ending.  We all know that Dong Wook and Soo Kyung are soulmates but they didn’t meet until the 12th episode.  Anyway, the Dong Wook/Yu Jin relationship has ended and Dong Wook confessed his feelings for Soo Kyung.  But when Dong Wook asked her to live with him abroad, Soo Kyung said she’s not ready yet for that kind of a relationship.  During the last episode, both of them are in Tokyo for different reasons but they don’t know about it.  Maybe that’s how destiny works.

One more thing I liked about Soulmate is its soundtrack. It might be the first Korean drama I’ve seen that incorporated music into the story.  Even its episode titles are named after a song that’s used in that particular episode.  It featured songs from Everything but the Girl, Jason Mraz, Fantastic Plastic Machine, Lisa Loeb, and a lot more.  I found myself unconsciously humming Lasse Lindh’s C’mon Through a week after watching the last episode.

Soulmate is a funny and refreshing drama.  I watched it two years after it was aired and was entertained by it.  There’s a good balance between light and heavy moments.  The actors have good chemistry and the story is not predictable.  It is recommended for those who love Korean drama series.  Now where is my soulmate hiding?  Come out, come out, wherever you are!
