Speedy Scandal is one of the top grossing Korean movies in 2008. I waited so long to get a copy of it and that wait is finally over. After viewing it, I truly feel that it deserves all the box office success it had. It stars Cha Tae Hyun as the grandfather/radio DJ, Park Bo Young as the mother/aspiring singer and Hwang Seok Hyeon as the son/prodigy pianist.

I don’t know why people enjoy public scandals. When you turn on the TV, every news and entertainment shows are filled with scandals. I guess that’s the price famous people must pay for being in the eyes of the masses all the time.
This is the premise of Speedy Scandal, although it shouldn’t have been a scandal if Nam Hyeon Soo didn’t hide the fact that he has a daughter. But because he hosts a wholesome show on the radio and has his reputation to take care of, he had to do it. Life is hard for a Hwang Jeong Nam, growing up without a father figure. Then one day she showed up at her father’s door, with her son in tow. As the story goes on, people starts to whisper about their true relationship but they can’t go public with the truth.
I was surprised how good Tae Hyun performed in Speedy Scandal. He and Park Bo Young had good chemistry. You can absolutely feel the emotions reeking out of their characters. You can feel the emotions they’re trying to project. The son, played by Junior Jun Pyo in Boys Over Flower, was simply adorable. When you’re a child star, acting is not important as long as you have a cute smile.
If you’re looking for something to do this rainy summer day, go watch Speedy Scandal. Don’t let the title deceive you. It’s not that kind of movie. I’ll guarantee that it would bring you laughter with a little bit of drama on the side. The whole family will definitely enjoy this movie.
