Slumdog Millionaire is a tale of a lucky Mumbai teen named Jamal Malik (Dev Patel). Jamal’s life is not to be envied but he made the most out of it. He didn’t let his status in life to hinder his dream. But come to think of it, his dream was simple really. He might be the movie’s millionaire but in reality, who is the true slumdog millionaire?

One suspect is director Danny Boyle. He did a superb job with Slumdog Millionaire. The movie is storytelling at its best. It would literally take the audience to Jamal’s world and let them experience how it is like to be there. There were lots of emotions conveyed by Slumdog Millionaire but Boyle made it engaging and cohesive that the audience gets it right away. You’ll feel Jamal’s happiness when he got the autograph even if he’s covered in shit. That’s just one example of the movie’s unforgettable moments.
Jamal Malik (Dev Patel): Maybe it’s written.
Or maybe it is screenwriter Simon Beaufoy. He made the movie seamless and he truly deserves his win in this year’s Oscar award for best writer. The script was funny when it needed to be funny and serious in parts where seriousness is required. This movie was based on the novel by Vikas Swarup.
Or is he A.R. Rahman, the movie’s scorer who also won an Oscar for his work in the movie? I was surprised that I actually liked the movie’s soundtrack. I’m not a big fan of the Indian music scene but right after watching the movie I found myself scouring for the soundtrack.
But in my opinion, the true Slumdog Millionaire are the audience. The viewers are blessed to be able to be given the opportunity to watch it. The eight Oscars it won is not enough to tell us the greatness of the movie. After experiencing the movie, people would be richer. We might not have millions in our banks but you’ll be rich with inspiration, hope, and love.
