I’ve seen the first 2 Underworld movies and I must say that Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans is worthy to be a prequel. I’m not that much excited about prequels but you have to see this one. The story focused on Lucian (Michael Sheen) and how he and Viktor (Bill Nighy) became bitter enemies.

underworld-3Although we didn’t get to see much of Selene (Kate Beckinsale) in Underworld 3, she has a commendable substitute in the body of Sonja (Rhona Mitra), Viktor’s most loved daughter. Kate Beckinsale might have carried the first 2 Underworlds on her back, but Rhona Mitra did a superb job of being the alpha female of the movie.

But like what the title says, this is the Rise of the Lycans and Lucian is the star of this movie. It is an emotional, intriguing and tragic tale of how Lycans and the vampires settled their differences before the time of Selene.

If you haven’t seen any Underworld movie yet, Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans could orient you as to what Underworld is all about. As for the loyal fans of the series, well, you already know who will live or die in this movie but it is still worth your time to find out how. Now that the origin is told, I wish that the next Underworld movie goes back to Selene and Michael’s time.

*Spoiler*
Lucian escaped with the help of Tannis but in return wants Sonja’s place in the council. Lucian escaped with the other werewolves, with some left behind. He promised them that he will be back. Then Viktor discovered that Lucian and Sonja were lovers. When Lucian went back for Sonja and the others, he was captured. Sonja was then sentenced to die. Lucian watched her die. Just when Lucian was about to be executed as well, he turned into a werewolf and called for reinforcements. During the battle, Lucian manages to stab Viktor with a sword in the mouth and left him for dead. But Viktor escaped and Tannis placed him in a safe coffin.
