Rough Cut in a Box

rough-cutRough Cut is about an actor (Ji-hwan Kang) wants to be a gangster and a gangster (Ji-seob So) wants to be an actor. It’s a straightforward tale of the lives of these two men and how their paths crossed each other.

The movie featured lots of lively action sequences, mostly fist fights involving Su-ta and Gang-pae. I don’t know much about Korean gangsters but in Rough Cut, the gangsters don’t use any guns at all.

But that’s the only thing that this film differed from any gangster movies I’ve seen.

I didn’t expect it to end the way it did, so kudos to the director and writer for not making the movie predictable. Though, Rough Cut felt like a rough cut one third of the way. There were moments in the film that could have been taken out of the final cut. But it was still one enjoyable action drama.

*Spoiler*
During the filming of the final fight scene, Gang-pae was already winning when Su-ta got his second wind. Then they both knocked each other out but Su-ta stood up. After filming, Gang-pae went to Mr. Park and just when we thought that he became one of Mr. Park’s minions, Gang-pae killed him with a Buddha figurine.
