Director Jae-young Kwak finished off his Sassy Girl trilogy May of 2008 with Cyborg Girl, a story of a cyborg and a passive guy. He started with My Sassy Girl and followed it up with Windstruck. Although he calls it a trilogy, there’s nothing common with their storyline. One thing that could connect the three movies is that they’re romantic comedies centered on a strong girl and a weak guy.
This might be the first sci-fi I’ve seen that had true to life feelings. It had comedy, action, drama and romance. You might think that with its long running time it might be dragging but it’s not. Not once was I bored with the movie, not even when Jiro (Keisuke Koide) made the trip to his hometown. Plus the Cyborg (Haruka Ayase) is cute and believable as a robot. I want her to shock me as well. She even did the robot dance in one of the scenes.
The love story of Jiro and Cyborg might be tragic from the start. How come a human and a robot fall in love right?
Well, Cyborg Girl was well written that by the end of the movie you would want to meet the director himself and congratulate him for a job well done. That’s what I want to do.
*Spoiler*
The story is kinda tricky. It started when a girl from the future came back to the present to meet the maker of a cyborg. We all thought that she was a cyborg. But in reality she was a real human who looks like cyborg. They went on a date and then she returned back to her time. Fast forward 1 year later. Cyborg goes back to the present. She then became a superhero because in the future Jiro felt sorry for the innocent lives lost because of the accidents. Then came a big earthquake and the Cyborg was destroyed. But in the end, the girl came back and lived the rest of her life with Jiro.
